2024 Theme

As we come together for our 12th Annual Conference, against the backdrop of an upcoming presidential election in a contentious political climate, we reflect on what unites us. Our network members remain unwavering and united in their commitment to solving the most pressing public policy issues of our time and finding ways to effectively contribute through a myriad of avenues for the betterment of our nation. We believe that informed and engaged public servants — particularly during times of distrust and disagreement — are those who “hold the center”, a phrase Secretary Rumsfeld used to describe President Ford’s steady leadership as he guided our nation through turbulent times.

While we share many core principles, it is the diversity of expertise and backgrounds among the professionals who make up this network – working across government, academia, civil society and the private sector – that offers such value to all involved. It is clear that the answers to tomorrow’s challenges will require collaboration, innovation and ideas from leaders of all fields. Let’s bring this mindset – of collaboration, partnership, listening and learning – to our conversations here at the conference and beyond, continuing to advance this collaborative spirit through the relationships formed within our network.

Secretary Rumsfeld once remarked, “America will always be a beacon of hope to the world as long as there are young men and women capable and willing to lead. I have every confidence they are out there. And I have every confidence that when the time comes, they will rise to the challenge of their generation as so many others have before them.” As we gather, let us honor our commitment to “holding the center” on behalf of our great nation and take inspiration and encouragement from the talented leaders we've convened.

Our democracy will be sustained by America's bright, young leaders committed to public service and public policy.
